Developing Your Personal Brand

This semester in my Principles of Social Media course, we were assigned an online textbook highlighting many valuable skills in the world of social media marketing. "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" was recently published book by Michelle Charello and includes topics such as marketing specific media platforms, blogging, social selling and many more. Today, I want to focus in on Chapter 2 of Charello's book, developing your personal brand. To develop your personal brand, there are a few steps involved to get started. These steps include identifying your target audience, determining your vision and purpose, determining your values, determining your passions, determining your goals, determining your brand attributes, determining your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, determining your competition, and identifying three words to best describe you.
Between these nine steps, I believe that the seventh step is the most important when it comes to developing your brand. Determining your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats allows you to set a baseline of information. One can see where their strong suits are and what they need to improve on. They can also see how industry trends are changing and decide how their brand is going to react accordingly. Looking into potential threats is also very important for developing your personal brand because you may need to stay on top of any new technological advances being made in your field where your skills could potentially be outshined.
After going more into detail on the nine steps to developing your personal brand, Charello goes on to talk about not only auditing your personal brand, but also building your personal brand, and even touches on social media etiquette. I personally believe Chapter 2 holds very valuable information for the future when considering developing your own personal brands. There are many ways to develop your personal brand and this chapter really hits some of the key ways this can be accomplished. Having a better understanding of your personal brand can set you apart from other competitors. To start changing your understanding of social media marketing, stay tuned until next week!

  1. Social Media is a huge way that users can build your brand. I personally like how you spelled out different steps that you can take to build that brand online. Most times people don't think that social media can help with networking and brand building, but with social media the sky is the limit. I found this blog very interesting and looking forward to hearing more!

  2. Hallie, I enjoyed reading your blog. You are right, social media can help a ton of things, just like building a brand like you said. From experience, and my brother being a real estate it has helped him a lot and I am sure you can relate in other ways to like you said. I like how you also added more steps and explained them into greater depth. Can't wait to learn more with you in this class!

T-Swift Year!

This past weekend, I officially had my last birthday in college. I turned 22 years old this past Friday. While this isn't a milestone birthday like turning 18 or 21, I still wanted to make it memorable. Lucky for me, with my birthday falling on a Friday I had the whole weekend to celebrate.     Friday's typically are very relaxed for me in general because I don't have classes. I woke up to all my family members texting me wishing me a happy birthday. I started the day off by getting ready to go to the gym. I've made going to the gym a big priority in my life. Not only because it helps me feel good about myself, but also because it's something I enjoy. It's always nice going to the gym early in the morning because it's usually empty or only has a few people in it. Luck was on my side because I had an empty gym all to myself. I went about my workout and then headed home to get ready for work. I know what you're thinking, "Hallie, why would you go

Gym Grind

I've never been one to actually workout. All my life, I've been involved with athletics, whether it be basketball, volleyball or cheer, I was always active growing up. Once sports started to get more serious, I decided to stick with volleyball during my time in high school. With summer conditioning, open gym and summer leagues, it's fair to say I was in great shape for my age. Come senior year, I injured my back while playing and was told to stop playing in order for it to heal properly. Deciding to stop playing was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but I knew if I wanted to continue being active at all I should listen to the doctors and put a pause on my activities. Since then, I tried to stay active in a variety of ways, from walking around campus to running in the gym. It wasn't until this past year that I started to really dedicate myself to the gym.     I was going through a pretty rough breakup and fell out of love with myself. I really didn't l

Back to Reality

All good things must come to an end, break has ended. While break was a week long, it still doesn't feel like we had enough time. From the moment I arrived at home, it had been "go go go." It feels like the only time I truly spend at home is when I'm sleeping each night. Let me take you through where my chaotic week has taken me, starting with Friday when I arrived.     Immediately after unpacking the car, I had to turn right around and pick my mom up from work. My mom had just gotten a new car, so she left it at the house for me to pick her up in. I was nervous driving because it was all so new I didn't want to ruin anything. After getting her from work, we ran to some of our favorite stores: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After window shopping and picking up some small items, we ended our night with a pizza from our favorite place, Carmela's. Saturday morning, my brother, mom, dad and myself went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because it was my brot
