Open House!

Welcome back! Recruitment week has officially begun and I couldn't be more excited. Each of the sororities have put so much work into preparing for this week and we are all so excited for the potential new members (PNMs) to find their new homes. Kicking off the start of recruitment week is Open House. During Open House, PNMs are able to do a walkthrough of all four of the sororities houses. This is when the girls can go room by room to get a feel for the house and even just see the layout of everything.
As each group of PNMs arrive at the house, active members line up in wait to be paired off. As the girls enter the house, we introduced ourselves and led them into the TV room for a short presentation. During this presentation, the girls are given a very brief overview of finances involved, as well as any scholarship opportunities and expectations we abide by. After the short presentation, we take the girls on individual tours of the house, showing them all the bedrooms, as well as any of the additional rooms in the house. For Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA), we are the only off campus sorority, meaning our housing is not located in Affinity Commons on campus like the other sororities. This means those living in the house are technically commuters. Inside the ZTA house, a total of 18 girls can live inside the house at a cheaper rate than any other housing option on campus. There are two quads, four doubles and two single room available for the picking. The room selection process is done in a separate meeting months before the university's housing selection. Living in the house is a great opportunity to get close with your sisters. Unlike the other sorority houses on campus, ZTA does not require members to live in the house, but most girls look forward to the chance.
Although I did not live in the ZTA house myself, I can see the bonds forming inside the house in which they're stronger than they have ever been. Open House is a great opportunity to meet one-on-one with a sister and briefly chat about recruitment before the rounds officially begin Thursday. I met some great girls today and cannot wait to meet more later this week! Next up, Philanthropy!

Until next time XOXO

  1. Hi Hallie! I am also so excited for the upcoming sorority recruitment week. While it will be very stressful, it will also be so exciting to meet all of the PNMs. I also never lived in the Alpha Xi house but I have heard from so many girls what an amazing experience it is. You are able to walk door to door and hangout with everyone. I think that living in the house would be fun, I just didn't think it was for me.

T-Swift Year!

This past weekend, I officially had my last birthday in college. I turned 22 years old this past Friday. While this isn't a milestone birthday like turning 18 or 21, I still wanted to make it memorable. Lucky for me, with my birthday falling on a Friday I had the whole weekend to celebrate.     Friday's typically are very relaxed for me in general because I don't have classes. I woke up to all my family members texting me wishing me a happy birthday. I started the day off by getting ready to go to the gym. I've made going to the gym a big priority in my life. Not only because it helps me feel good about myself, but also because it's something I enjoy. It's always nice going to the gym early in the morning because it's usually empty or only has a few people in it. Luck was on my side because I had an empty gym all to myself. I went about my workout and then headed home to get ready for work. I know what you're thinking, "Hallie, why would you go

Gym Grind

I've never been one to actually workout. All my life, I've been involved with athletics, whether it be basketball, volleyball or cheer, I was always active growing up. Once sports started to get more serious, I decided to stick with volleyball during my time in high school. With summer conditioning, open gym and summer leagues, it's fair to say I was in great shape for my age. Come senior year, I injured my back while playing and was told to stop playing in order for it to heal properly. Deciding to stop playing was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but I knew if I wanted to continue being active at all I should listen to the doctors and put a pause on my activities. Since then, I tried to stay active in a variety of ways, from walking around campus to running in the gym. It wasn't until this past year that I started to really dedicate myself to the gym.     I was going through a pretty rough breakup and fell out of love with myself. I really didn't l

Back to Reality

All good things must come to an end, break has ended. While break was a week long, it still doesn't feel like we had enough time. From the moment I arrived at home, it had been "go go go." It feels like the only time I truly spend at home is when I'm sleeping each night. Let me take you through where my chaotic week has taken me, starting with Friday when I arrived.     Immediately after unpacking the car, I had to turn right around and pick my mom up from work. My mom had just gotten a new car, so she left it at the house for me to pick her up in. I was nervous driving because it was all so new I didn't want to ruin anything. After getting her from work, we ran to some of our favorite stores: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After window shopping and picking up some small items, we ended our night with a pizza from our favorite place, Carmela's. Saturday morning, my brother, mom, dad and myself went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because it was my brot
