Philanthropy Round!

Welcome back everyone! Rounds have officially started and our chapter couldn't be more excited. The first round is Philanthropy. A philanthropy is a cause each sorority partners with and raises money for donation. For Alpha Xi Delta, this year their philanthropy is Kindly Hearts Campaign, assisting areas affected by COVID-19. Delta Zeta focuses their philanthropy with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, assisting countries around the globe with hearing aids and other necessities. For Kappa Alpha Theta, they focus their philanthropy on CASA, which helps rehabilitate and impact the lives of foster children. For my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA), our philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. During this round of recruitment, potential new members have the opportunity to learn more about each of the sororities philanthropy's while meeting more of the sisters.

Our philanthropy partners up with Think Pink and the American Cancer Society, as well as the NFL. This allows us to hold events which tie directly into these organizations. Events we have held in the past include "Corn hole for a Cause," "Chick-fil-A with the ZTA's," "ZLAM Dunk" and many more. The purpose of these events is to not only raise money for a good cause, but it's also to educate the importance of doctor visits and self-checkups. One of our sisters, Taylor, spoke at the round last night on her personal story with breast cancer. If it weren't for her mother doing self-checkups and expressing concerns at the doctors, she may not have caught the cancer in time and her mother would not be cancer free. One fact is 1 in 8 women will be affected by breast cancer at some point in their lives, so to display this we had every eighth sister have a white ribbon tied to their wrists. Having the girls with ribbons on their wrists puts how serious this is into perspective.

Many people in my own life have been affected by breast cancer and this philanthropy is what drew me into ZTA. Being able to raise money and bring awareness to breast cancer is one way I can help those affected in my life. Many of the girls I had met last night had some tie to breast cancer and they really enjoyed their night with ZTA. I can't wait to see what the next round holds, onto Sisterhood!

Until next time XOXO

  1. I think that Zeta's philanthropy is one that many people are able to connect too. Sadly, breast cancer is something that affects many people so there are many personal connections that are able to be made. I think that it is very powerful that sisters are willing to share stories of loved ones that have been affected by breast cancer. Excited to hear about sisterhood round!

  2. It's great to see that all of the sororities on campus take a part in philanthropic efforts. It's especially good to hear that Zeta Tau Alpha has focused their efforts on a cause that effects so many of us and that most of us have ties to in some way or another. I completely agree that hearing the 1 in 8 statistic really puts things into perspective and highlights the seriousness of breast cancer. I also really love that your sorority gave the opportunity for others to share their stories and connections with this specific cause, that creates such a strong bond between people. I can't wait to hear about the next round!

T-Swift Year!

This past weekend, I officially had my last birthday in college. I turned 22 years old this past Friday. While this isn't a milestone birthday like turning 18 or 21, I still wanted to make it memorable. Lucky for me, with my birthday falling on a Friday I had the whole weekend to celebrate.     Friday's typically are very relaxed for me in general because I don't have classes. I woke up to all my family members texting me wishing me a happy birthday. I started the day off by getting ready to go to the gym. I've made going to the gym a big priority in my life. Not only because it helps me feel good about myself, but also because it's something I enjoy. It's always nice going to the gym early in the morning because it's usually empty or only has a few people in it. Luck was on my side because I had an empty gym all to myself. I went about my workout and then headed home to get ready for work. I know what you're thinking, "Hallie, why would you go

Gym Grind

I've never been one to actually workout. All my life, I've been involved with athletics, whether it be basketball, volleyball or cheer, I was always active growing up. Once sports started to get more serious, I decided to stick with volleyball during my time in high school. With summer conditioning, open gym and summer leagues, it's fair to say I was in great shape for my age. Come senior year, I injured my back while playing and was told to stop playing in order for it to heal properly. Deciding to stop playing was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but I knew if I wanted to continue being active at all I should listen to the doctors and put a pause on my activities. Since then, I tried to stay active in a variety of ways, from walking around campus to running in the gym. It wasn't until this past year that I started to really dedicate myself to the gym.     I was going through a pretty rough breakup and fell out of love with myself. I really didn't l

Back to Reality

All good things must come to an end, break has ended. While break was a week long, it still doesn't feel like we had enough time. From the moment I arrived at home, it had been "go go go." It feels like the only time I truly spend at home is when I'm sleeping each night. Let me take you through where my chaotic week has taken me, starting with Friday when I arrived.     Immediately after unpacking the car, I had to turn right around and pick my mom up from work. My mom had just gotten a new car, so she left it at the house for me to pick her up in. I was nervous driving because it was all so new I didn't want to ruin anything. After getting her from work, we ran to some of our favorite stores: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After window shopping and picking up some small items, we ended our night with a pizza from our favorite place, Carmela's. Saturday morning, my brother, mom, dad and myself went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because it was my brot
