Snapchat Content Strategies

Snapchat is a media platform not many businesses utilize for their benefit. Snapchat has a target market involving the younger generations, typically those 30 and under, so many businesses feel the need to not utilize this platform strictly based on the age range of its users. This leaves Snapchat to be a platform no one business has strictly dominated. Some strategies a business can utilize through Snapchat include posting short and fun content, posting during optimal times, telling a great story, holding Snapchat contests, having behind-the-scenes content and many more. Chapter 7 highlights some of these strategies, giving us a more in-depth understanding of them.

Due to Snapchat being a younger demographic-based platform, higher quality videos don't always attract the most viewers as one would think. Businesses should try posting short and fun "snaps" throughout their content to keep the attention of their viewers. According to the book, brands need to capitalize on sharing quick and funny moments. Although it's key to keep the content short and funny, there are various creative tools to express their brand's personality while still interacting with their followers. Besides posting short and fun content, businesses need to also post daily and at optimal times. Regarding when to post, a business needs to think of when their target market is more likely to be online. From there, they can assess and set up a routine of scheduling posts.

With short content, a business can still tell a great story. On Snapchat, the program allows for viewers to see snaps consecutively with no breaks. Burberry took advantage during the London Fashion Week of this feature. This campaign gained loads of media coverage and is a prime example of utilizing this feature. If a business is looking to interact more with their followers, holding Snapchat contests are the perfect tool. A company who took full advantage of this tool is Grubhub. Grubhub is a form of food delivery and they hosted a scavenger hunt contest. For a week straight, Grubhub would post new challenges and followers could win prizes like free delivery! Engaging with your followers can be vital to gain a better following. People want a business who treats them as a person and not just a number. A way to make followers feel special can be posting behind-the-scenes content, not only behind-the-scenes, but even employee takeover can make a business seem more personable.

I hope this week's chapter gave you a little more insight to advancing your business platform on Snapchat! Stay tuned for next week's post!

  1. It’s unfortunate that many businesses would write off a younger market from their advertising campaigns. I feel like targeting a younger audience can be very useful. Younger people tend to have a lot of free time and very few responsibilities. This might make them a useful market to target since they will be looking for things to do. They don’t have a ton of money available, but if not many companies are targeting them, a smaller investment might go further.

T-Swift Year!

This past weekend, I officially had my last birthday in college. I turned 22 years old this past Friday. While this isn't a milestone birthday like turning 18 or 21, I still wanted to make it memorable. Lucky for me, with my birthday falling on a Friday I had the whole weekend to celebrate.     Friday's typically are very relaxed for me in general because I don't have classes. I woke up to all my family members texting me wishing me a happy birthday. I started the day off by getting ready to go to the gym. I've made going to the gym a big priority in my life. Not only because it helps me feel good about myself, but also because it's something I enjoy. It's always nice going to the gym early in the morning because it's usually empty or only has a few people in it. Luck was on my side because I had an empty gym all to myself. I went about my workout and then headed home to get ready for work. I know what you're thinking, "Hallie, why would you go

Gym Grind

I've never been one to actually workout. All my life, I've been involved with athletics, whether it be basketball, volleyball or cheer, I was always active growing up. Once sports started to get more serious, I decided to stick with volleyball during my time in high school. With summer conditioning, open gym and summer leagues, it's fair to say I was in great shape for my age. Come senior year, I injured my back while playing and was told to stop playing in order for it to heal properly. Deciding to stop playing was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but I knew if I wanted to continue being active at all I should listen to the doctors and put a pause on my activities. Since then, I tried to stay active in a variety of ways, from walking around campus to running in the gym. It wasn't until this past year that I started to really dedicate myself to the gym.     I was going through a pretty rough breakup and fell out of love with myself. I really didn't l

Back to Reality

All good things must come to an end, break has ended. While break was a week long, it still doesn't feel like we had enough time. From the moment I arrived at home, it had been "go go go." It feels like the only time I truly spend at home is when I'm sleeping each night. Let me take you through where my chaotic week has taken me, starting with Friday when I arrived.     Immediately after unpacking the car, I had to turn right around and pick my mom up from work. My mom had just gotten a new car, so she left it at the house for me to pick her up in. I was nervous driving because it was all so new I didn't want to ruin anything. After getting her from work, we ran to some of our favorite stores: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After window shopping and picking up some small items, we ended our night with a pizza from our favorite place, Carmela's. Saturday morning, my brother, mom, dad and myself went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because it was my brot
