Bid Day Best Day!

Recruitment is finally over and our new members are running home! This process has been so amazing and we are so excited to be expanding our chapter. Each year, there is a theme to each sorority's bid day. For Delta Zeta, their theme was "Honey I'm Home," Alpha Xi Delta had the theme of the 70s, Kappa Alpha Theta was "Howdy Howdy Cowgirls" and Zeta Tau Alpha (Zeta) had "Sweet Dreams are Made of ZZZ's." A tradition on Bid Day is running "home" to your new sorority. Unfortunately, I was not able to run home last year due to COVID, but being on the receiving end was so much better. Before walking over to Affinity Commons to meet with the other sororities, work was done at the Zeta house.

Waking up at 7 a.m, it was all hands-on deck getting the house ready. Being the signs chairwoman, I have been working on our bid day banner and bid letters for the past few weeks. It was now finally time to hang the banner up for everyone to take their pictures. Everyone loved the banner and letters, which made me feel better about my artistic skills. As the rest of the sisters gathered at the house, one of our vice president's read off the names of all our new members. Everyone was so excited hearing the names of the girls we really wanted to go Zeta. For Zeta, if you "pref" a girl during recruitment, you get to be the one to welcome her home. Luckily for me, I got to experience this. The girl I had preffed went Zeta and I was so excited to be the one running her home. After the list was read off, our chapter headed over to Affinity Commons and waited for our new members. There were lots of pictures and dancing involved as we waited patiently for the names to be announced, but as time went on we slowly collected our new member class.

After collecting our new members, we headed back to the Zeta house for lunch and more pictures. We spent much of the day getting to know our new members and making lasting memories. For my first year of being behind the scenes of the recruitment process, I can say this year was a success. We are so excited for our chapter and can't wait to see what the new members bring to the chapter. As Bid Day ends, so do my recruitment blogs, but have no fear because now we have sorority life blogs to come!

Until next time XOXO,

Hallie

  2. Hi Hallie! Bid day is for sure one of the best days, getting to see all of the new members running home is amazing! I get the pain of waking up early, I am the bid day chairman for Alpha Xi so I was up at 5:30 am to start the set up process. I love getting to look at the different sororities banner and letters because they are also so pretty!

  3. That looks amazing! I joined a fraternity this year and I know it is a lot different compared to sororities, but I understand the excitement of getting to meet the new people and creating memories.

T-Swift Year!

This past weekend, I officially had my last birthday in college. I turned 22 years old this past Friday. While this isn't a milestone birthday like turning 18 or 21, I still wanted to make it memorable. Lucky for me, with my birthday falling on a Friday I had the whole weekend to celebrate.     Friday's typically are very relaxed for me in general because I don't have classes. I woke up to all my family members texting me wishing me a happy birthday. I started the day off by getting ready to go to the gym. I've made going to the gym a big priority in my life. Not only because it helps me feel good about myself, but also because it's something I enjoy. It's always nice going to the gym early in the morning because it's usually empty or only has a few people in it. Luck was on my side because I had an empty gym all to myself. I went about my workout and then headed home to get ready for work. I know what you're thinking, "Hallie, why would you go

Gym Grind

I've never been one to actually workout. All my life, I've been involved with athletics, whether it be basketball, volleyball or cheer, I was always active growing up. Once sports started to get more serious, I decided to stick with volleyball during my time in high school. With summer conditioning, open gym and summer leagues, it's fair to say I was in great shape for my age. Come senior year, I injured my back while playing and was told to stop playing in order for it to heal properly. Deciding to stop playing was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but I knew if I wanted to continue being active at all I should listen to the doctors and put a pause on my activities. Since then, I tried to stay active in a variety of ways, from walking around campus to running in the gym. It wasn't until this past year that I started to really dedicate myself to the gym.     I was going through a pretty rough breakup and fell out of love with myself. I really didn't l

Back to Reality

All good things must come to an end, break has ended. While break was a week long, it still doesn't feel like we had enough time. From the moment I arrived at home, it had been "go go go." It feels like the only time I truly spend at home is when I'm sleeping each night. Let me take you through where my chaotic week has taken me, starting with Friday when I arrived.     Immediately after unpacking the car, I had to turn right around and pick my mom up from work. My mom had just gotten a new car, so she left it at the house for me to pick her up in. I was nervous driving because it was all so new I didn't want to ruin anything. After getting her from work, we ran to some of our favorite stores: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After window shopping and picking up some small items, we ended our night with a pizza from our favorite place, Carmela's. Saturday morning, my brother, mom, dad and myself went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because it was my brot
