2021 Semi Formals!

This week my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA), had their annual semi formal. What our semi formal usually consists of is a nice dinner, superlatives and lots of pictures. Due to COVID-19 last year, we weren't able to safely host this event. It was a real bummer, as it's a looked forward to event. Semi formal is an excuse to dress up and enjoy being with your sisters. Typically, we host this event on campus in the Bear Cave, however, we decided to change things up and have it at The Inn. We were skeptical at first since we have never had it there, but it turned out great! Our theme this year was "Dripping in Luxury," so we had red, silver, gold and black decorations with lots of pearls and diamonds covering the room.
The Inn catered the entire event and even had all the tables set up for us. All we had to do was set our centerpieces up. While it was a little chilly last night, everyone braced the breeze and came out for the event. The dinner served was chicken parmesan, salad, broccoli cheddar soup, bread sticks and cannolis for dessert. After dinner was over it was time for the superlatives. Some of the superlatives we include are best smile, best dressed, biggest flirt, most changed and best fam. We even make some superlatives for the dates a few of the sisters. These superlatives include most whipped, cutest couple, fun uncle and future stay-at-home dad. It was nice getting everyone involved and seeing all of the fun awards given. After superlatives, the night started to end with more pictures. Being Signs chairperson, I made the backdrop for the photos. Trying to incorporate the theme, I made the banner very classy and simple with red and gold. Everyone loved the banner and took plenty of pictures with it, which made me happy. I can't wait for our next formal in the spring and hope it's just as good as this formal was. By the time spring rolls around the weather will be nicer for everyone to enjoy.
While I sadly didn't win any superlatives this time around, my "twin" in my ZTA fam and I agree there should've been an award for best twins. By the way, we are the only set of twins in our sorority, so we thought it would be funny to have an award dedicated to us. All in all, the night was great and it was nice to just dress up and get away from schoolwork. I wonder what the next formal's theme will be, any guesses?

Until next time XOXO,

Hallie

  2. Hallie, semi formals are very fun! My sorority was able to have one at the end of last year but unfortunately have not had one yet this year. I really enjoy that you and your twin want to have an award. I have the only set of twins in Alpha Xi and would think it would be funny if they had this award for them!

T-Swift Year!

This past weekend, I officially had my last birthday in college. I turned 22 years old this past Friday. While this isn't a milestone birthday like turning 18 or 21, I still wanted to make it memorable. Lucky for me, with my birthday falling on a Friday I had the whole weekend to celebrate.     Friday's typically are very relaxed for me in general because I don't have classes. I woke up to all my family members texting me wishing me a happy birthday. I started the day off by getting ready to go to the gym. I've made going to the gym a big priority in my life. Not only because it helps me feel good about myself, but also because it's something I enjoy. It's always nice going to the gym early in the morning because it's usually empty or only has a few people in it. Luck was on my side because I had an empty gym all to myself. I went about my workout and then headed home to get ready for work. I know what you're thinking, "Hallie, why would you go

Gym Grind

I've never been one to actually workout. All my life, I've been involved with athletics, whether it be basketball, volleyball or cheer, I was always active growing up. Once sports started to get more serious, I decided to stick with volleyball during my time in high school. With summer conditioning, open gym and summer leagues, it's fair to say I was in great shape for my age. Come senior year, I injured my back while playing and was told to stop playing in order for it to heal properly. Deciding to stop playing was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but I knew if I wanted to continue being active at all I should listen to the doctors and put a pause on my activities. Since then, I tried to stay active in a variety of ways, from walking around campus to running in the gym. It wasn't until this past year that I started to really dedicate myself to the gym.     I was going through a pretty rough breakup and fell out of love with myself. I really didn't l

Back to Reality

All good things must come to an end, break has ended. While break was a week long, it still doesn't feel like we had enough time. From the moment I arrived at home, it had been "go go go." It feels like the only time I truly spend at home is when I'm sleeping each night. Let me take you through where my chaotic week has taken me, starting with Friday when I arrived.     Immediately after unpacking the car, I had to turn right around and pick my mom up from work. My mom had just gotten a new car, so she left it at the house for me to pick her up in. I was nervous driving because it was all so new I didn't want to ruin anything. After getting her from work, we ran to some of our favorite stores: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After window shopping and picking up some small items, we ended our night with a pizza from our favorite place, Carmela's. Saturday morning, my brother, mom, dad and myself went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because it was my brot
