After 15 long weeks, our journey of exploring "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" has come to an end. We have learned great skills along the way from developing your personal brand to what goes into a social media marketing campaign. Personally, I have learned a lot from the information provided by Michelle Charello. Many believe all it takes to be in the social media field is to know how to post a picture. They don't understand all of the details that really go into one single post. I believe Charello did a fantastic job laying all of this out.
I know when I first started this course, I was like most people who didn't take into consideration all of the behind-the-scenes work. Now, I understand all of the details. One thing I liked about this book most was the layout of the content. Charello did a great job with the order and layout of the chapters. To me, everything flowed in the typical order you'd assume it would. Starting with developing your personal brand, then slowly moving upward into each social media platform and ending with campaigns and policies. I think it's important to start with personal branding to inform users of the importance it holds. Progressing into each platform individually helps readers understand how one post format may work on one platform but it doesn't necessarily mean it will work on another. It's important to treat each platform individually in order to properly target specific audiences. Once each platform was talked about in-depth, moving into other forms of media such as blogs, vlogs and podcasts was interesting. It shows how standard social media platforms aren't the only way to reach new audiences. After all platforms were talked about, it was nice to learn about the behind-the-scenes with social media marketing campaigns. More work goes into putting campaigns together then one would think, check out my blog "Launching a Social Media Marketing Campaign" to learn more.
When I first found out I would be writing weekly blog posts on a class textbook, I wasn't thrilled. In the end, I was presently surprised with how much I enjoyed and learned. Social media is one of my minors and after taking this course, I feel more prepared for the future. The text was simply laid out and in easy to understand language. Overall, I believe Charello did a great job with this text and hope more courses decide to use it as a resource. Thank you for following my blogging journey, hope you enjoyed the ride!
